How to Use This Converter

Enter your vehicle's fuel consumption figure, select the unit shown in your car's manual or dashboard, and see all equivalent values. Nigerian drivers typically see fuel economy expressed as km/L (kilometres per litre), while imported cars from the US show MPG.

Note on L/100km vs. km/L

These are inverse of each other. Lower L/100km = better efficiency. Higher km/L = better efficiency.

10 L/100km10 km/L = 23.5 MPG (US)
8 L/100km12.5 km/L = 29.4 MPG (US)
6 L/100km16.7 km/L = 39.2 MPG (US)

FAQ

In Nigerian city driving (heavy Lagos traffic), most petrol cars achieve 7–10 km/L (10–14 L/100km). On highways: 11–14 km/L (7–9 L/100km). Toyota Corolla: ~11 km/L highway. Toyota Camry: ~10 km/L. Keke Napep (3-wheel) and small motorcycles achieve 25–35 km/L. Nigerian fuel economy is generally lower than manufacturer specifications due to traffic, road quality, and fuel quality.
Monthly cost = (Monthly km ÷ km/L) × fuel price per litre. Example: 1,500 km/month ÷ 10 km/L × ₦900/L = ₦135,000/month on fuel. Use our Fuel Cost Calculator for the full breakdown. Petrol in Nigeria is approximately ₦900/L (NNPCL regulated price as of 2024–2025, subject to change).
UK gallon (imperial) = 4.546 litres. US gallon = 3.785 litres. So 1 MPG (UK) = 1.201 MPG (US). A car showing 40 MPG (UK) = 33.3 MPG (US). This distinction matters when comparing specs of British-spec vs. American-spec vehicles — some Nigerians import from both markets.
