How to Use This Calculator
Select your day, month, and year of birth from the three dropdowns. Your age, total days lived, day of the week you were born, and a countdown to your next birthday are all calculated and displayed instantly.
The calculator automatically accounts for leap years and varying month lengths, so the result is always exact to the day.
How Age Is Calculated
Years = Current Year − Birth Year (adjusted if birthday hasn't occurred this year)
Months = Current Month − Birth Month (adjusted for day)
Days = Current Day − Birth Day (adjusted using days in previous month)
Total Days Lived = (Today's Date − Birth Date) in milliseconds ÷ 86,400,000
Days to Next Birthday = Next Birthday Date − Today (in days)
Day Born = JavaScript Date.getDay() on birth date
The calculation uses the Gregorian calendar and accounts for leap years automatically. The "days" component shows the number of days since your last birthday, not the total days in the current month.

Age in Nigerian Context
Knowing your exact age matters in several Nigerian legal and administrative contexts:
- NYSC eligibility: Corps members must be under 30 years old at the time of graduation (with some exemptions). Check your exact age before graduation to plan accordingly.
- Retirement age: Civil servants retire at 60 years of age or 35 years of service (whichever comes first). Private sector retirement is typically contractual.
- NIN and passport: Age verification is required for National Identity Number registration, international passport, driver's licence, and other official documents.
- Marriage age: The legal minimum age for marriage in Nigeria is 18 years under the Marriage Act, though customary law varies by state.
- Voting age: Nigerian citizens can register to vote at 18 years of age.
FAQ
Age is calculated precisely from your birth date to today. If you were born on the 15th of a month and today is the 10th, your birthday for this year hasn't occurred yet, so you are still in the previous year of your age. This is the legally and medically correct way to calculate age — your birthday officially passes on the anniversary date each year.
If you were born on 29 February (a leap day), on non-leap years your birthday is typically observed on 28 February or 1 March depending on the context. This calculator uses the JavaScript Date object which handles this automatically — in non-leap years, the calculation adjusts to the nearest valid date.
NYSC requires that corps members are under 30 years at the time of graduation from their degree programme. Use this calculator with your current date to check your age. If you are 29 years and several months old near graduation, plan carefully — if you exceed 30 years before your graduation date is officially registered, you may lose NYSC eligibility. Mature students should confirm with their institution's registrar.
